Dennis Makarewicz was born on April 11, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the Henry Ford College in Dearborn Michigan and received his Chartered Financial consultant designation from the American College, Bryn Mawr, PA.
Dennis lived in the Bahamas from 1968 to 1975 where he was employed as an International Real Estate Consultant with Intercontinental Realty Ltd. and the Grand Bahama Development Corp. Ltd. He moved to Florida in 1975 to expand his investment knowledge and joined American Express Financial Advisors.
He enjoyed a rewarding career at American Express for 20 years where he worked with his high net worth clients. During that time, he received every award and honor possible and was one of the top 100 Financial Planners in America, culminating with his Hall of Fame Award. This prestigious honor has been awarded to less than one hundred advisors over the company’s one hundred year history. For over 37 years, Dennis has provided financial services ranging from real estate to portfolio management.
In 1995, Dennis formed First Security Financial Advisors Incorporated as an independent money management firm. The company’s name was formally changed to First Security Capital Management, LLC.

Byron L. Studdard was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama and graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1991. Shortly after graduating, Byron’s mother lost her battle with cancer. After helping his family settle the estate, Byron dedicated his life to helping others build wealth and preserve it for future generations through a comprehensive estate and financial plan.
He started his career as a financial advisor with American Express. He received the Presidents Recognition for Quality of Advice Award in 1996 for outstanding planning and service to his clients. Later that year, his achievements in planning and client service ranked him among the top 20% of advisors nationwide.
In 1997, Byron earned the prestigious CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation, and began teaching classes about financial planning. His course became one of the most successful in the region which led American Express to promote him into a management position in charge of teaching his own curriculum of strategies to preserve and protect wealth.
The following year he became a District Manager at American Express where he supervised over 30 financial planners. As a result of his dedication to planning, Byron was also invited to join the prestigious Advanced Planner Group of American Express. This group is comprised of the top 8% of financial planners across the country. That same year, Byron was promoted to Associate Vice President in charge of advisor development.
In 2001, Byron became a Regional Vice President in charge of the Southeastern United States with The Legend Group, a subsidiary of Waddell and Reed.
He later founded his own investment planning firm, Studdard Financial with offices in Tennessee and Florida.
Byron is listed in the “Guide to America’s Best Financial Planners” by the Consumers Research Council of America (www.consumersresearchcncl.org), an independent research company.
In 2008, Byron formed a strategic partnership with First Security Capital Management, LLC as a Senior Portfolio Manager. Byron brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to First Security Capital Management, LLC.

Kristina Garbade, the smiling voice that you first hear when you call or see upon entering our organization, is FSCM's office manager. She supports our group by acting as a liaison between our clients, other professionals and broker dealer. With over 10 years of experience in the financial industry, Kristina excels in personalized client service. Her experience has provided her with extensive knowledge of several major institutions back office systems and procedures, giving her the ability to avoid bottlenecks while resolving service requests quickly. FSCM clients greatly benefit from Kristina's experience and dedication.

First Security Capital Management is pleased to announce that Katie C. Pepin, owner of Sarsota Tax Planning, has located her Venice office in our new complex at 1491 A East Venice Avenue. As an Enrolled Agent (EA), Katie is a federally-authorized tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation and who is empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service, in all 50 states, for audits, collections, and appeals.
Katie C. Pepin, EA, President & C.E.O. was awarded a full academic scholarship to the University of Memphis. While in college, she joined American Express Financial Advisors to augment her classroom studies. Katie earned a Bachelors degree in Finance from The University of Memphis; and, while working full time, a Masters of Science in Accounting from New England College. As an Enrolled Agent and Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor, she uses her degrees in both finance and accounting to help her clients with tax preparation, accounting and bookkeeping for small businesses.
